Scorecard

Jimmy Gopperth contributed with 19 points as Wasps secured their maiden victory at Welford Road since 2008 after defeating Leicester Tigers by 22-34 during their Aviva Premiership encounter on Saturday.

Gopperth continued his form from the previous game as he kicked a penalty in the third minute but it was soon negated by Freddie Burns as he levelled the score 3-3 by the 20th minute.

Gopperth brought Wasps back into the lead with another three pointer as a result of maul infringement from Leicester Tigers following which the 33-year-old assisted Christian Wade to score the first try. However, Lachlan McCaffrey responded with a try of his own for Leicester Tigers to cut short the difference to five points at half-time.

Wasps continued their domination with tries from Guy Thompson and Sam Jones to take a 27-8 lead to Dai Young's men. However, Leicester fought back into the game with tries from Ed Slater which was followed by a hat-trick of penalties from Burns to reduce the gap to just five points. The third penalty was a result of Thompson's sin bin.

Just when Leicester had a golden chance to seal a victory, both Ellis Genge and Peter Betham were yellow carded following which Gopperth capped off a fantastic game for him with a converted try in the final minute.

The 22-34 win took Wasps to second position in the table while Leicester find themselves at fifth position.
