Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt has reshuffled his squad for the Rugby Championship clash against Argentina in Sydney, naming Tane Edmed at fly-half for his first Test start.

Edmed steps in for Tom Lynagh, who has been ruled out with a hamstring injury.

The 25-year-old playmaker, son of former Balmain Tigers forward Steve Edmed, has featured twice off the bench for the Wallabies.

His elevation marks a rapid rise after he was released by the Waratahs earlier this year and played club rugby before securing a Brumbies deal for 2026.

Coach Schmidt praised Edmed’s composure and said he wanted to give him more time to grow into the pivotal No.10 role. James O’Connor provides experienced backup from the bench after steadying the game in Townsville last week.

The Wallabies are without Noah Lolesio and Ben Donaldson, leaving Edmed as the latest in a string of fly-half options this season. In addition, Hunter Paisami returns at centre, while Josh Nasser and Lukhan Salakaia-Loto are named among the replacements, both set to earn their first Test caps of 2025.

Meanwhile, James Slipper will play his 149th Test, moving into third place on the all-time list of men’s internationals, behind only Alun Wyn Jones and Sam Whitelock.

The Wallabies edged Argentina 28-24 in Townsville and are looking to strengthen their campaign with another win in Sydney.
