Vaea Fifita, the dynamic back-row forward, will leave Scarlets at the conclusion of the current season to join French Top 14 side Montauban, bringing an end to a memorable stint in Welsh rugby.

Fifita, who previously represented New Zealand before switching allegiance to Tonga, has been a standout performer for Scarlets since his arrival. Known for his explosive ball-carrying, tireless work rate, and versatility across the back row, he quickly became a fan favourite at Parc y Scarlets.

Speaking about his departure, Fifita said: “It’s a new chapter for me and my family, and I can’t wait to get stuck in with Montauban.”

He also thanked Scarlets for the role they played in his career development, adding that the club and its supporters will always hold a special place in his heart.

Scarlets head coach acknowledged the value Fifita brought to the side, saying: “He’s been a key figure here, bringing physicality, personality and leadership every day.”

Fifita’s new club, Montauban, expressed excitement about the signing, calling him a powerful and experienced addition who will bolster their ambitions for the upcoming season. The club believes his athleticism and international pedigree will bring a fresh edge to their forward pack.
