Ulster head coach Dan McFarland is set to step down from his role with immediate effect after close to six seasons.

According to reports, the news on McFarland's departure is set to be informed to the squad on Wednesday morning with assistant coach Dan Soper set to step in as the interim coach.

McFarland became the longest serving head coach of the professional era for Ulster having joined them in 2018 but there has been a lot of pressure on him following the province's Sunday's defeat to the Ospreys along with Champions Cup losses to Toulouse and Harlequins.

The 51-year-old was originally contracted with Ulster until 2025.

Ulster are currently at eighth position in the United Rugby Championship table after losing four out of the 10 matches.

They are now set to take on Dragons in the next round of the United Rugby Championship on 3rd March followed by an away game against Montpellier in the Challenge Cup.
