Saracens have announced the signing of Tim Swiel on a short-term deal to provide cover during an injury crisis.
The 31-year-old versatile back has returned to the club following an injury to Louie Johnson, who is expected to be sidelined for up to three months after tearing his bicep during training.
Swiel, who can play both fly-half and fullback, previously trained with Saracens last season and now returns to the squad ahead of their busy Premiership Rugby Cup campaign.
With extensive experience from stints at clubs like the Stormers, Sharks, Edinburgh, Newcastle, and Harlequins, Swiel brings valuable depth to Saracens during this challenging period.
Swiel’s arrival will provide crucial backup for Saracens, who are dealing with Johnson’s absence after his recent injury. The club is preparing for a demanding schedule, and Swiel’s ability to cover multiple positions will be an asset.
Director of Rugby Mark McCall expressed his satisfaction with Swiel’s return, as the experienced back adds depth to the squad and helps to ease the injury concerns ahead of important upcoming fixtures.
“Tim was a very popular member of the group when he trained with us last year so we are delighted to have him back," he told the club's official website.
His experience will be valuable to the younger players and we are excited to see him steer the group through the Cup calendar.”
