Former Wales international T. Rhys Thomas has joined Matt Sherratt’s coaching staff for the remainder of the Guinness Six Nations.

The 42-year-old, who earned 27 caps for his country during his playing career, will work as a skills coach, focusing on forwards' development.

Thomas, who played as a hooker for Cardiff, Wasps, and Dragons, is currently part of the Gloucester coaching setup in the Gallagher Premiership. However, he will be with Wales on secondment, returning to Gloucester after the tournament.

With Matt Sherratt leading Wales on an interim basis following Warren Gatland’s departure, Thomas becomes the second coach to join on a short-term basis in this Six Nations campaign.

Earlier, scrum specialist Adam Jones was also brought in on secondment from Harlequins.

Thomas will work closely with forwards coach Jonathan Humphreys and Jones to refine technical skills among the pack.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the appointment, Sherratt stated:

"I am delighted that TR will be joining the coaching team, and I would like to thank Gloucester for allowing him to come on secondment to Wales. Having known TR for a number of years, I think he will be a great fit for the group."

Reflecting on his appointment, Thomas acknowledged the quick turnaround but expressed excitement about the opportunity:

"I would like to thank Gloucester and (rugby director) George Skivington for allowing me to take up this opportunity to join Wales for the remaining three Guinness Six Nations games.

"It has all happened very quickly the past few days, but I am excited for the challenge and looking forward to getting stuck in, working with Matt and the other coaches."

Wales are currently on a 14-match losing streak, the longest in their history, and face a tough challenge ahead. Their next fixture is against Six Nations title favorites Ireland in Cardiff on Saturday. This will be followed by matches against Scotland and England as they seek to regain form.
