Ireland prop Tadhg Furlong has returned to full training and is in contention for selection ahead of the team’s second Six Nations fixture against Italy.
Tadhg Furlong Injury Update Ahead Of Italy
Furlong resumed full training on Monday after recovering from a calf injury sustained while playing for Leinster in the Investec Champions Cup last month.
The tighthead prop had missed Ireland’s opening match against France, where Tom Clarkson started and Finlay Bealham provided cover from the bench.
A final decision on his availability is expected later in the week when head coach Andy Farrell names the matchday squad.
Ireland Squad Fitness Report
Ireland trained at Clongowes Wood College with no new injury concerns reported following the opening-round defeat in Paris. The session marked the first time Furlong completed full contact work since his layoff, improving his chances of returning for Saturday’s match.
Squad Additions Before Italy Clash
Ulster back-row forward Bryn Ward has rejoined the training squad after featuring for an Ireland XV against England A at Thomond Park. The young forward had previously trained with the senior squad during the pre-tournament camp in Portugal.
