Ireland forward Cian Prendergast says the squad remains confident of recovering from defeat to France after the opening round of the Six Nations in Paris.

Cian Prendergast Reacts To France Defeat

Ireland were beaten in their opening fixture after conceding three first-half tries, falling behind heavily before halftime. France extended the lead early in the second half before Ireland responded through replacements Nick Timoney and Michael Milne. A late French score ended hopes of a comeback.

Prendergast, making his first Six Nations appearance in the starting lineup, said the result would not define Ireland’s campaign and stressed the team’s belief in its character.

“I know the character of this group. I know we will bounce back. The Six Nations isn’t lost,” said back rower Prendergast to Irish Rugby's official website.

“It’s never won or lost in the first round so we’ll show up to work on Sunday, we’ll be honest with each other in how we review it and we’ll be a better side off the back of that."

Ireland Performance Positives And Review

Ireland now turn attention to their next fixture at home against Italy. Prendergast described the opposition as physical and improving, highlighting the need for greater accuracy and intensity from the start.

“I’ve played Italy before, they’ve got brilliant players playing in the Top 14 and in the URC. They are physical, so it’s another challenge and we will just have to get ready for that.”
