Sunwolves have confirmed former New Zealand international Tony Brown as the new head coach of the Super Rugby side.

The decision follows after Jamie Joseph, who was in charge of the club in the last two seasons has now decided to focus completely on the national side Japan with the country set to host the Rugby World Cup next year.

Brown was already part of the coaching panel of Sunwolves last season when he worked assistant to Joseph and even took the reins for the final three games of the season when the latter was out for the national duty.

The 43-year-old played for the All Blacks 18 times between 1999 and 2001 and has coached Panasonic Wild Knights, Otago and Highlanders in the past.

Brown will continue to have the services of Scott Hansen as the defence coach of the Japanese regional side.
