Six Nations trophy to be replaced after fire

The Six Nations trophy will be replaced after suffering fire damage while being transported during the current championship.

Six Nations Trophy Fire Damage Confirmed

Tournament organisers confirmed that an incident occurred involving the vehicle carrying the championship trophy following the most recent round of matches. While no passengers were injured, the silverware sustained fire damage.

After assessment by the official manufacturer, it was determined that the trophy cannot be restored to full presentation standard. As a result, it will be retired from ceremonial use.

New Six Nations Trophy Commissioned

Organisers have announced that a new trophy will be commissioned in the same design as the original. Materials from the damaged silverware will be incorporated into the new creation to preserve its heritage and history.

The manufacturing process is expected to take approximately 365 hours, meaning the new trophy will not be ready until next year’s competition.

Exhibition Trophy For Current Championship

For the remainder of this year’s Six Nations, an identical exhibition trophy will be presented to the eventual champions. The final match of the tournament is scheduled to take place in Paris between England and France on 14th March.

"Whilst in transit during round three of the Guinness Men's Six Nations, an incident occurred involving the vehicle carrying the championship trophy," the Six Nations organisers said.

"Thankfully no passengers were injured, however the trophy sustained fire damage, and following an assessment by the official trophy manufacturer, unfortunately it cannot be restored to its full presentation standard.

"In keeping with these presentation standards, respect for the significance of winning the Six Nations -- one of sport's most prestigious titles -- and to preserve the integrity of the Trophy and its heritage, it will be retired from ceremonial use.

"A new trophy will be commissioned in the same design as the original, with materials from the original being incorporated into the new trophy, ensuring its history is respectfully transferred to the new creation."
