The Scarlets have confirmed that Blair Murray has signed a new contract, extending his stay in Llanelli until at least 2028.
Murray, 23, arrived from New Zealand last year and made a sensational debut season in the United Rugby Championship (URC).
He earned a call-up to the Wales national team, was named in the URC Elite XV, and even entered discussions as a potential British & Irish Lions selection. A native of Hawera, he qualifies for Wales through his mother from Tonyrefail.
In the 2024/25 season, Murray topped the Scarlets’ try-scoring charts with 11 tries. One standout moment came with a memorable try in their quarter-final play-off against Leinster in Dublin.
His stellar performances earned him the Players' Player of the Season award at the club’s end-of-season ceremony. He also added to his international résumé by starting in two Tests against Japan this summer, bringing his cap count to 10.
Head coach Dwayne Peel praised Murray’s impact: “He is the type of player who fans come to watch, someone who can light up a game. For him to commit for three more years is a real statement.”
Murray reflected on his decision to stay: “Since being a small boy, you dream of playing professional rugby. I’m living that dream here. The culture is like a family, and extending my contract was an easy decision.”
Looking ahead, Murray said he’s eager to build on last season’s success: “This club is ambitious in URC and Europe—I'm excited to keep pushing this forward.”
