London Irish have confirmed that Academy graduate prop Luke Green will Major League Rugby’s San Diego Legion on loan with immediate effect.

He will now link up with former London Irish player Blair Cowan in the Legion squad which also has former Exile and current scrum coach of the San Diego team in Alex Corbisiero.

Green said he is looking to explore opportunity with San Diego Legion before returning back to the London Irish at the start of the 2023/24 season.

“It’s a great opportunity for me to measure myself in a new environment,” said Green.

“Not many people get to test themselves abroad so early in their careers, so I’m excited to pick up some new experiences that will help me to develop as a player for when I return to London Irish.”

Meanwhile, London Irish director of rugby Declan Kidney is confident that the experience in the MLR will aid Green.

“We know Luke will be in good hands with Blair and Alex already over in San Diego and look forward to seeing the developments he makes from his time in America,” he said.

“Like Ed Scragg with Sydney University, Luke will experience valuable game time and it will only benefit him and London Irish in the future.”
