Sale Sharks have confirmed the signing of full-back Simon Hammersley from Newcastle Falcons ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Hammersley started his career with National League Two North club Hull Ionians and enjoyed BUCS title win with Durham University. The 26-year-old's association with the Falcons began in 2013 when he was part of the Premiership Rugby 7’s competition and his Premiership debut came a year later.

“I'm hugely excited for the next chapter of my career, Sale are a brilliant, ambitious side and play a great style of rugby," he told.

"I'm really looking forward to getting started in the summer!”

Hammersley began to make a stride in his career in 2016 and was part of the England Saxons squad for the tour of South Africa but an ACL tear sidelined him for most of the 2016/17 season, though he made a terrific comeback in the Falcons' 2017/18 season where they went on to reach the play-off for the first time in the Premiership.

”Simon has been an outstanding performer for Newcastle over the last couple of years, in particular against Sale! So when the opportunity arose to sign him we acted swiftly," said Sale Sharks director of rugby Steve Diamond.

"He adds excellent depth to our backline and will be challenging for the number 15 shirt next season. We look forward to welcoming Simon to Carrington in the summer".
