Ryan Woolacott's Aviva Premiership XV

After seeing several picking their best players and dream teams I thought I would join in on the act and give everybody my 'Aviva Premiership XV' my selection is based on player performance over the last season. This is simply my opinion and of course some favouritism is likely to creep in but I'm hoping that will just add to the debate.

1. Soane Tonga'uiha - Northampton Saints
Now Tonga'uiha has been one of the stand out props in premiership rugby for a few years now. There is no secret he is one of my favourite players however I believe his inclusion here is completely justified. He is a potent attack threat, a destructive force in the scrum. Tonga'uiha has been performing consistently in a well functioning pack all season and thoroughly deserves this spot.

2. Schalk Brits - Saracens
I'm pretty sure I will get no arguments with this selection. Brits has the flair of a winger, the unpredictability of a centre,  however he still has the strength of a forward and he leads from the front. Brits is earning all the plaudits right now, and is fully justified as the best hooker in the Aviva Premiership right now.

3. Matt Stevens - Saracens
Stevens has had a very solid season with Saracens considering he didn't start the season as a first choice prop for them, his scrums have been powerful and effective, his tackling equally strong. Stevens has capped a very strong season by appearing with the England Saxons and being called up to the England World Cup Training Squad.

4. Courtney Lawes - Northampton Saints
Courtney Lawes has been a revelation in the Aviva Premiership, his athleticism, his mobility and his stamina just show us how he can constantly parade up and down the pitch making tackles, gaining yards and clearing ruck's. He is a devastating tackler, he hits with absolute precision. It is hard to believe that Lawes is still so young as his demeanour on the pitch would suggest he is a seasoned Pro. Northampton have had one of the best functioning line outs this season and Lawes has played his part in that.

5. Christian Day - Northampton Saints
As I said above Northampton had one of the best functioning line outs this season, Day himself earned the credit of most line outs won in the Aviva Premiership. Day surpassed a lot of expectation this season and had it not been for Lawes and Palmer working together so well for England Day may have got himself a call up. As a pair Lawes and Day are almost unstoppable on their day. That is why they are my Aviva Premiership XV second row pairing.

6. Chris Robshaw - Harlequins
Chris Robshaw has been a consistent performer for Harlequins. Robshaw is a strong ball carrier, comfortable at the breakdown and makes a lot of big tackles. This season Robshaw helped guide Quin's to a Amlin Challenge Cup victory. He has been an inspiring leader on the pitch for Quin's and always leads by example. This past year Robshaw has been playing to his full potential and we have seen him rewarded with a call up to England's World Cup Training Squad. Due to his consistently solid and assured performances Robshaw takes the coveted number 6 jersey.

7. Tom Johnson - Exeter Chiefs
It's fair to say 90% of Rugby fans were surprised by Tom Johnson's impressive performances week in week out for Exeter. However I think a lot of people are now believers that Johnson is a contender for England's No.7 shirt. Exeter may have surprised a few teams this season, but a huge part of it is down to every players dogged performances and Johnson has been the epitome of this, highlight by his award for performance of the season. Johnson rightfully claims myAviva Premiership XV No.7 spot.

8. Luke Narraway - Gloucester RFC
Narraway has been a leading performer for Gloucester this season, he has been a strong ball carrier a solid line out option and a great driving force behind the scrum. Narraway's solid showings this season have resulted in him being included in the England Saxon's Churchill cup campaign. Luke was rightly upset at not being selected for England's World Cup training squad as he has had a great season.

9. Joe Simpson - London Wasps
With Ben Youngs and Danny Care spending a good portion of the season with England this opened the door for a fresh face at scrum half. Simpson has been an exciting player to watch this season, conjuring up all manner of chances for London Wasps. He has probably been the one shining light this season for Wasps in what ahs been a somewhat disappointing season for them. Had Dickson of Saints not been injured at a crucial point of this season this could have been a much tougher decision but based on the whole season, Simpson fully deserves this.

10. Gareth Steenson - Exeter Chiefs
I have chosen Steenson despite his injury this season because he was simply astounding when he did play, near faultless kicking and a great game with ball in hand. Steenson made the huge step from championship Rugby to Premiership rugby seem easy and obviously has bags of talent. His composure and consistency along with his meteoric rise in a Chiefs shirt make him my stand out fly half. Thus Gareth Steenson is my Aviva Premiership XV No.10.

11. David Strettle - Saracens
Strettle made the most clean breaks this season and beat the most defenders, two accolades most wingers look to other than most tries of course. This does show the attacking threat that Strettle has been throughout the season. He has also been strong in defence which can often be the let down of great attacking wingers. Strettle has certainly proved his worth this season and makes it into my Aviva Premiership XV.

12. Seilala Mapasua - London Irish
Mapasua has been one of the few players at London Irish this season whose form has not wavered.  Mapasua has shown his attacking prowess on regular occasions and shown his defensive qualities just as often. Mapasua is the Exiles stand out player right now and however they are playing you still have to be wary of him. In my opinion there isn't a better option at 12.

13. Manu Tuilagi - Leicester Tigers
Despite Manu's little indiscretion at the tail end of this years Aviva Premiership season he has still been an explosive player on the pitch for the right reasons. An undeniably exciting player, bags of pace, bundles of skill, tremendous ability. At a very young age Manu is proving himself to be a force in modern rugby, and not just for his right hook. He has performed exceptionally well this season and for that reason he is my choice at 13.

14. Charlie Sharples - Gloucester RFC
Now as a Saints fan I'm sure many of you were expecting this spot to be taken by Chris Ashton, however with his England commitments and being rested on occasion for bigger games I don't feel he played a big enough part in the premiership itself. Charlie Sharples however had an impressive season to say the last, picking up a lot of vital tries, providing great support play, solid defensive displays and a running line which is almost impossible to stop. Sharples has been a phenomenon in my opinion since cracking the Gloucester first team and long may it continue for this exciting winger.

15. Alex Goode - Saracens
Alex Goode has had yet another great season, he offers everything you would look for in a modern full back, he can kick for touch, kick for goal, run at defences, catch the high balls. Literally what you ask him to do he can do it. Consistently performing for Saracens yet again this season and scoring vital points. Alex Goode is unlucky not to be more involved in the England set up, but right now he is the most consistent performing full back in the Aviva Premiership.

So that's my team. I have tried to be unbiased to a degree but sometimes we just cant help it for a player we admire. I would love to hear peoples thoughts on my selection and hear what peoples alternatives might be.
