Wales back-row Ross Moriarty has been handed a four-week ban following his red-card incident in the second Test against Argentina in Santa Fe last weekend.

The decision came in the final minute of the game when he was sent-off following a headlock on Pumas fly-half Nicholas Sanchez. However, the decision did not have any impact on the game as Warren Gatland's men completed a 12-30 victory to end their summer tour undefeated.

Moriarty, who is set to join Dragons from Gloucester ahead of the 2018/19 season will be free to play from the second round of the Pro14 competition.

The Independent Judicial Committee deemed that Moriarty's action warranted six weeks of suspension and the fact that he did not let Sanchez go despite the intervention of the assistant referee saw an additional week added to sanction.

However, considering the mitigating factors and Moriarty's plea to guilty the suspension was reduced by three weeks.

Dragons head coach Bernard Jackman was disappointed with the news and said he would have liked to have the 6ft 2' number eight involved in the pre-season.

"We would have liked to have him a bit earlier for those pre-season friendly games so it is not ideal," said Jackman.

"I did not think there was that much in the incident. He was trying to protect himself after being attacked firstly and I thought he showed good restraint.

"It is done now and he has apologised for it.

"We are looking forward to getting Ross on the field so he can show the type of form he demonstrated in Argentina where he was outstanding.

"Ross showed why he is one of the most exciting back-rowers in the world and he is still so young."
