South Africa have named four uncapped players in their team to face Wales in Durban, with Rassie Erasmus making further changes as the Springboks continue their Nations Championship campaign.
Springboks Name Four Uncapped Players
Vusi Moyo will make his Test debut at fly-half, while Sharks teammate Jaco Williams has been selected on the wing for his first Springboks appearance.
Carlu Sadie also starts at tighthead prop after his strong form with Bordeaux Bègles, while Montpellier lock Ruben van Heerden has been named in the second row. The four debutants give South Africa a fresh look as Erasmus continues to test the depth of his squad.
Rassie Erasmus Rotates South Africa Squad
The Springboks have won both of their Nations Championship matches so far, beating England at Ellis Park before overcoming Scotland in Pretoria.
Erasmus has again opted to rotate his squad, with Pieter-Steph du Toit captaining the side in the absence of Siya Kolisi. The South Africa coach said the plan had always been to give as many players as possible an opportunity during the competition if results allowed.
“We told the players from the start of the season that if everything played out well, we would give everyone in the squad a chance to play in the competition, and we are excited to see what the uncapped players, as well as those who have not been in the mix for a while, bring to the team,” said Erasmus.
“This squad shows an exciting mix of youth and experience, and while we are under no illusions about the threat Wales poses, we are looking forward to seeing what these players can do.”
South Africa Prepare For Wales Test
South Africa will be without several experienced players for the Wales fixture, with Eben Etzebeth, Franco Mostert, Andre Esterhuizen, Canan Moodie, Handre Pollard and Ox Nche unavailable due to injury.
Wales have had a mixed start to the Nations Championship, beating Fiji before losing to Argentina.
