Wasps 50-35 Sale Sharks, Ricoh Arena
Scorecard

Dan Robson contributed with four tries as Wasps defeated Sale Sharks 50-35 in their opening game of the 2017/18 season of Aviva Premiership at Ricoh Arena on Saturday.

Robson, who became only the 13th player in the Premiership to score four tries, crossed over in the second and 13th minute to give a head start to Wasps. Three minutes later Christian Wade too went past the line and Jimmy Gopperth's triple conversion took the home side to a lead of 21-0.

Winger Byron McGuigan got Sale Sharks off the mark with a 21st-minute try but Robson with his third touchdown negated his effort. As the half time was nearing, Ben Curry strolled past the post but it was tough going for Sale Sharks as they trailed by 17 points leading into the second half.

Just like the first half, Robson went past the line early after the restart as Dai Young's men increased their lead to 22 points.

Denny Solomona and their new recruit Faf de Klerk provided some momentum for Steve Diamond's men with back to back tries that came in the 55th and 59th minutes respectively which also helped them secure a bonus point but Will Rowlands and flanker Alex Rieder ensured there is no looking back for Wasps with a try each.

Josh Strauss did manage to score Sale's fifth try in the game at the closing stage but that only helped them reduce their losing margin to 15 points as Dai Young's men start the campaign on a victorious note.
