Ospreys have been granted a premises licence for their redeveloped St Helen’s home in Swansea, clearing another step ahead of the club’s first United Rugby Championship fixture at the venue later this month.
St Helen’s premises licence approved
The licence allows alcohol to be sold until 1am seven days a week in designated parts of St Helen’s.
Different conditions apply to the pitch, bowl and concourse areas, where alcohol sales must stop at 11pm, followed by a 30-minute drinking-up period.
The licence was granted by Swansea Council’s licensing sub-committee following a hearing in late September.
St Helen’s is undergoing a major redevelopment involving Swansea Council and Ospreys Rugby, with the project designed to accommodate both professional and community rugby.
Ospreys supporters welcome St Helen’s move
The redevelopment includes a new all-weather pitch, seating areas, a fan zone and event facilities as Ospreys prepare to establish St Helen’s as their permanent home.
Ospreys Supporters’ Club described the move as the start of a new chapter and said excitement had increased as the redevelopment took shape.
The supporters’ group also expressed hope that St Helen’s would become both a strong home venue for Ospreys and a community hub for rugby clubs and organisations across Swansea and the wider region.
Ospreys prepare for first St Helen’s home game
Ospreys are scheduled to play their first URC home match at the redeveloped ground against Dragons on Saturday, October 24, with kick-off at 7pm.
Cardiff are then due to visit St Helen’s the following Saturday, October 31, for a 7.45pm kick-off.
