Wales head coach Wayne Pivac has named Ospreys flanker Justin Tipuric as the captain for the upcoming autumn internationals.

The decision follows after regular skipper Dan Biggar is ruled out of the upcoming campaign with a knee injury.

Tipuric has been with Ospreys since 2009 and took over the club captaincy in 2018 from Alun Wyn Jones. He has already captained Wales during the 2019 World Cup game against Uruguay.

The 33-year-old has played 85 Tests for Wales including 11 appearances that came during the 2015 and 2019 World Cups combined. He also made a solitary Test appearance for the British and Irish Lions during the 2013 tour against Australia.

“I am honoured,” said Tipuric.

“I didn’t quite expect it, to be honest.

“To have the responsibility of leading the boys on the field is definitely a highlight of my career.

“When you are out of the game for a while, it shows how much you miss it.”

Wales will kick-start their autumn international campaign with a clash against New Zealand on 5th November followed by matches against Argentina, Georgia and Australia.
