Northampton Saints have announced that Scotland centre Rory Hutchinson has signed a contract extension with the Gallagher Premiership club.

Hutchison began his rugby career at National League 2 South side Shelford and joined Northampton academy in 2014. He made his senior debut for the club in 2015 against Leicester Tigers and has played 150 games for the club scoring 32 tries.

The 28-year-old was part of the team that won the Premiership Cup in 2019 and also had loan stints with Moseley, Coventry and Rotherham Titans.

“Northampton is my home club,” he told the club's official website.

“I’ve been here ten seasons now, growing up and playing alongside a lot of the boys in the current squad, and it feels good to have worked my way up here – I would never have thought I would make it to 150 games for Saints.

“I feel like something is really coming together at the Club at the moment, as we’ve got a good bunch of lads together and we’re starting to achieve our potential as a team.”

He made his Scotland debut in 2019 and has seven international caps to his name.

“We’re delighted that Hutch is staying at the Club. He’s come through the Academy system and has been here a long time, so it means a lot to see him stay on," said Phil Dowson, Northampton's director of rugby.

“He’s got a huge differential with his game in how he is able to move the ball, to see space and put people into it. But the defence and physical side of his game has improved greatly this season – working closely with Lee Radford and Ben Rhodes in both those areas.”
