Leinster have confirmed that scrum-half Nick McCarthy will rejoin the club ahead of the 2021/22 season.

McCarthy, a product of Leinster Academy, made his senior debut for the club in 2015 and went on to make 36 appearances for them scoring four tries. He was also part of the Leinster squad that went on to win two Pro14 titles and a European Champions Cup triumph.

The former Ireland Under 20 international made a switch to Munster ahead of the 2019-20 season but now will be making a return to the Dublin based club next season.

“I want to thank everyone for my time in Munster Rugby. It’s a special club to play for with a great rugby culture. I have really enjoyed the experience, learned loads and made friends for life," he said.

“I am excited now to get back to Dublin in the summer. I will continue to challenge myself, compete at the highest level and hopefully add value to the squad in Leinster.”

Leinster recently completed their fourth successive title win in Pro14 as they defeated Munster 16-6 in the final. They will also face La Rochelle in the semi-final of the Heineken Champions Cup in the first week of May.
