Munster Rugby have confirmed a major fixture for the 2025 calendar as they prepare to welcome the Argentina XV to Thomond Park in Limerick on Saturday.

This clash marks the first meeting between the two sides in over five decades, reviving memories of their 12-12 draw in 1973 at the same iconic venue.

The last encounter between Munster and the Argentina XV took place in 1973, where Munster's Barry McGann kicked four penalties to secure a draw.

Among those involved in that historic game was Brendan Foley, now serving as Munster Branch President. The return of this fixture is being seen as an opportunity to celebrate the historic ties and rekindle competitive spirit between the two sides.

The Argentina XV's trip to Limerick is one leg of a broader Northern Hemisphere tour, which includes matches against top-tier opponents such as Bristol Bears, Wales, Scotland, and England.

Thomond Park has established itself as a prime location for international fixtures since its redevelopment in 2008. The stadium has hosted teams like the All Blacks, Australia, and the Maori All Blacks. The addition of Argentina XV to this list reinforces Munster’s tradition of bringing global rugby contests to local fans.

Munster Rugby CEO Ian Flanagan expressed his excitement about the fixture, saying, "We will be delighted to welcome Argentina XV to Thomond Park in November as part of their Northern Hemisphere tour."

He emphasised the strong rugby connection between Munster and Argentina and predicted an engaging and passionate encounter on the field.
