Munster Rugby has officially confirmed the appointment of two key figures to its coaching and performance staff ahead of the 2025–26 season.
Former England international lock Alex Codling has been named the permanent forwards coach, a role he will take up from October 1 after completing his current commitment with Ireland’s women’s team at the Rugby World Cup.
Codling had been working with Munster in a consultancy capacity since November, primarily focusing on set-piece efficiency, particularly scrummaging and lineout structures.
His impact during this period earned him a full-time spot, with players reportedly responding positively to his detailed and technical approach.
Joining him is Brad Mayo, who will serve as Head of Athletic Performance, stepping into the role this summer.
Mayo brings with him a wealth of high-performance experience from both hemispheres, having worked with the Brumbies, Chiefs, Bay of Plenty, Glasgow Warriors, and most recently the Hurricanes.
He also collaborated with Munster’s incoming head coach Clayton McMillan during the All Blacks XV tour last year, ensuring an established understanding within the coaching group.
Munster’s General Manager expressed confidence in Codling’s appointment, citing the clarity, expertise, and energy he has brought to the group since November.
