Newcastle Falcons have announced that Argentina international Mateo Carreras will be leaving the Gallagher Premiership club at the end of the ongoing season.

Carreras has been with the Falcons since 2021 and has gone on to play 37 times for the club scoring 16 tries. He was also the second in the most tries scored in the Premiership last season with 13 touchdowns.

The 23-year-old also scored three tries in Argentina's Rugby World Cup campaign helping them reach the semi-finals and has 17 Test caps to his name.

“I want to thank Newcastle Falcons and the club’s supporters for welcoming me to North East England and making my stay here so enjoyable," he told the club's official website.

“Newcastle has been my home for three years and I will really miss the place and the people when I move on in the summer.

“The Falcons have played a massive part in my rugby journey and I’m looking forward to giving my all during the time I have left here.

“My only focus is on being the best player and team-mate I can be between now and the end of this season, and I really appreciate the backing from all our supporters.”

Newcastle Falcons are languishing at the bottom of the Premiership table with five defeats from as many games.
