Newcastle Falcons 14-20 Exeter Chiefs, Kingston Park

Exeter Chiefs scored two tries in the final quarter as they edged out Newcastle Falcons 20-14 in the latest round of the Gallagher Premiership at Kingston Park on Sunday.

This is the fifth win for the Chiefs in seven games as they are at third place in the table while Newcastle are languishing at the bottom after losing all their seven matches.

Exeter made a brisk start as they scored a try in the opening minute as Immanuel Feyi-Waboso dived in the right corner but Henry Slade missed out on the conversion to make it 0-5.

Newcastle bounced back shortly as Jamie Blamire received the pass on the line of the Chiefs 22 as he went past Immanuel Feyi-Waboso to touchdown in the 5th minute and two minutes later Matias Moroni collected a chip kick from Iwan Stephens to dive in the left. Louie Johnson kicked both the conversions to take the scoreline to 14-5.

The Chiefs narrowed down the gap to six points by the end of the opening half as Slade slotted a penalty goal in the 38th minute with the opening half ending with a 14-8 scoreline.

Both the teams were looking for early in the advantage and in the 58th minute Chiefs lost replacement Ross Vintcent to a Head Injury Assessment. The second try for the Chiefs came in the 62nd minute as Ben Hammersley helped Slade to crossover and six minutes later Josh Iosefa-Scott dived from close range,

Slade missed out on the first conversion but made amends with his second two-pointer which proved enough as Rob Baxter's men completed a six-point victory.
