Fullback Leigh Halfpenny is all set to sign a dual contract with Pro 12 side Scarlets and the Welsh Rugby Union according to reports.

The 28-year-old, who was with Cardiff Blues between 2008 and 2014, moved to French side Toulon for three seasons and is currently out of contract.

According to a report from The Times, Halfpenny has set his target on Scarlets, which will see 60 percentage of his salary paid by by the Welsh board and the remaining by the regional side.

Halfpenny's original contract with Toulon was originally due to end with the 2017/18 season but the Top 14 club owner Mourad Boudjellal confirmed in June that the Wales international's contract will not be renewed after he had missed most of the matches due to injuries and international commitments.

Halfpenny also missed the Top 14 final last season which saw his club lose to Clermont Auvergne after he was chosen for British and Irish Lions' squad for New Zealand tour.

The addition of Halfpenny to Scarlets' squad comes after the Llanelli based outfit lost Liam Williams, who will move to Aviva Premiership club Saracens next season.

The report further added that Halfpenny's negotiation with Cardiff Blues fell off as the former Wales U20 wanted a 28 month contract that will see him released after the 2019 World Cup in Japan.
