Scorecard

Ngani Laumape scored a double while Jordie Barrett kicked 13 points as Hurricanes registered their third consecutive victory after beating Waratahs 38-28 in their Super Rugby clash at Westpac Stadium on Friday.

Laumape, Beauden Barrett and Jordie scored a try each in the first 15 minutes with the fullback converting all three of it to take the defending champions to 21 points.

A yellow card to All Blacks international Beauden in the 17th minute saw Ned Hanigan crossing over for the visitors and Bernard Foley's conversion brought down the gap to 14 points.

However, Hurricanes ended the first half strong with Wes Goosen and Mark Abbott rumbling past the post to extend their lead to 33-7 at half time.

Waratahs showed more intent in the second half with Bryce Hegarty and Jake Gordon dancing past the post bringing the difference to 12 points but Laumape scored his second try to halt the momentum of the visitors.

Even though, Andrew Kellaway scored a consolation try for Waratahs, they succumbed to a 10 point defeat despite a red card to Beauden in the 77th minute.

The win has taken Hurricanes to second position in the New Zealand Conference group while Waratahs are at second position in Australian Group despite suffering their fifth defeat.
