Munster fly-half Joey Carbery is excited about making his first Six Nations start in Ireland's upcoming clash against France to be played in Paris on Saturday.

A hamstring injury to skipper Johnny Sexton meant Carbery has been slotted at number 10 for the weekend's encounter after providing impact from the bench in the previous round game against Wales.

Carbery himself was hampered by series of injuries with the latest being a fractured elbow that he sustained in December while playing for Munster. Nevertheless, he is now hoping to create an impact as Ireland look to maintain their winning start in the tournament.

“I think anyone who’s been through a long-term injury knows how difficult it is, so to come through that helps me to definitely enjoy the good things in life,” said Carbery.

“To be honest, I’m just delighted to be back playing and to be back out there injury-free.

“I’m just relishing the whole environment of going into such a big game and it just puts everything into context really when you’re back playing and you’re not out injured.

“Having gone through that I definitely feel mentally like I’m stronger for it.

“I’m really excited for the weekend now. I feel like I’m ready to go, both mentally and physically.”
