Ireland will miss the services of lock Iain Henderson for the third round of the Six Nations tournament clash against Italy in Dublin after testing positive for Covid-19.

The 30-year-old returned a positive result in the latest round of Covid-19 testing as the Irish squad members assembled on Monday in a training camp.

A statement released by Irish Rugby Football Union revealed that Henderson will undergo home isolation.

"Iain Henderson produced a positive Covid result during the routine testing of squad and management upon arrival into camp on Monday evening," read the statement.

"The positive result has since been confirmed. Iain is well and has left Ireland camp to complete his period of isolation at home."

Meanwhile, as a major boost to Ireland their skipper Johnny Sexton has been declared fit for the Sunday's encounter.

Sexton missed the second round clash against France due to a hamstring injury with Joey Carbery starting at number 10 for Ireland in his absence.

Ireland are positioned third in the Six Nations table with a defeat and a victory apiece in the two games.
