Hurricanes 31-31 British and Irish Lions, Westpac Stadium
Scorecard

Super Rugby champions Hurricanes made an incredible comeback scoring two tries in the final quarter to go on to the level the tour game against British and Irish Lions 31-31 at Westpac Stadium on Tuesday.

Jared Payne withdrew from the game due to a headache and Leigh Halfpenny took his place on the bench.

Dan Biggar got Lions off the mark with a ninth minute penalty and eight minutes later, Tommy Seymour crossed over. Biggar added the extras and also followed it with a penalty as Lions raced to a 13 point lead.

Hurricanes first response came in the 26th minute when Callum Gibbins danced past the post allowing Jordie Barrett to slot the conversion. However, it was Warren Gatland's men, who finished the first half strong with a 7-23 lead following their second try in the game that came from George North while Biggar was spot on with the conversion that came after his third penalty.

Hurricanes intent was pretty much evident in the second half when Ngani Laumape went past the line while Barrett's conversion and penalty meant the gap between the two teams came down to six points.

A yellow card to Hurricanes' Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi saw Seymour scoring his second try as Lions stretched their lead to 14 points. However, an infringement from Iain Henderson in the 65th minute proved costly for the Lions as Wes Goosen and Vaea Fifita made the advantage of having an extra man count with back to back tries while Barrett slotted the conversions on both the occasions to level the scores 31-31.
