Eight fearless fundraisers successfully completed Tough Mudder on Sunday (6th October) in aid of military charity Hire a Hero.

The race is known as 'probably the toughest event on the planet' and is the second of 12 events taking place over 12 months.

More than a quarter of entrants do not complete the course, but all eight fundraisers made it through.

"The Tough Mudder event was a success," said Haydn Richards, who is the brains behind Hire a Hero.

"Every member completed every obstacle which I’m very proud of. From wading through waist high mud pits to scaling five metre high half pipes we finally made it to the finish line for a well-deserved beer.

"No team member walked any part of the course which is a massive achievement."

Obstacles the rugby-playing team had to overcome included the hazardous combination of water and electricity.

"It was a funny one," explained Richards. "Some members didn’t get hit but some of us did.

"I got hit right at the end and it took my legs from me! Dave McKenzie got hit twice whilst crawling through the water electrode obstacle and nearly blacked out!"

The eight were: Richards, David McKenzie, Ashton Bailey, David Haswell, Michael Potts, Michael Pittick, Johnny Murray and Ian Huntington.

Next up, they head to Yorkshire as they take on Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent, the Yorkshire Three Peaks on 17th November.
