Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend has recalled Edinburgh scrum-half Henry Pyrgos for the remainder of the World Cup campaign.

The decision follows Ali Price has been ruled out of the tournament after suffering a foot injury during the opening round clash against Ireland last weekend.

Pyrgos has played 27 Tests for Scotland since his debut in 2012 and his last appearance for the Dark Blues came during the November series in 2017. He also went on to play a solitary game during the 2015 World Cup.

Earlier, Townsend also named Magnus Bradbury as a replacement for Hamish Watson, who is sidelined with a knee injury that he suffered during the game against Ireland.

"We're disappointed for Ali to have to return home so early in the tournament," said Townsend.

"Both Ali and Hamish had invested a lot of effort into being in their best physical shape for the World Cup and it's a shame that they've only been involved in one game, however we have a lot of belief in our wider group and the two new players, Magnus Bradbury and Henry Pyrgos, who have been given this opportunity."

Scotland are set to face Samoa in the second round of the tournament in Kobe on 30th September.
