Henderson’s hat-trick not enough as Sedgley Park fall to Blackheath

In a thrilling clash between Sedgley Park and Blackheath on October 26, 2024, the visitors flexed their muscles and secured a 36-24 victory, despite a standout performance by Sedgley’s Rhys Henderson, who notched a hat-trick.

Blackheath’s dominance, particularly in the second half, left Sedgley Park with little to celebrate other than their bonus point in defeat.

Sedgley Park’s Fast Start

Sedgley Park wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with captain Matthew Riley crossing the line early. Ollie Glasse converted, celebrating his 150th appearance for the club. The momentum continued for the Tigers as Henderson, making his first of three tries, added another score, converted again by Glasse.

Blackheath’s Comeback

Blackheath responded with grit, and soon after, Billy Harding’s try, converted by Tom Ffitch, closed the gap. A second try by Harding and Ffitch’s successful conversion tied the game before Jordan Burns nearly scored just before halftime, only to be denied by a last-second touch. The sides went into the break level at 12-12.

Blackheath Takes Control

The second half saw Blackheath take the reins of the match. Ffitch’s penalty and a superb try by Jake Hennessey, who stormed past four defenders, extended their lead. Burns and Will Davis further solidified Blackheath's position with two more tries, sealing their bonus point victory.

Despite Henderson’s valiant effort, scoring two more tries to complete his hat-trick, Sedgley Park couldn’t close the gap. Blackheath walked away with a well-deserved 36-24 win.

Henderson’s Hat-Trick

Henderson’s three tries proved he was the standout performer for Sedgley, securing the Tigers a bonus point in defeat. However, the game belonged to Blackheath, who executed their game plan perfectly in the second half to claim the win.
