Harlequins suffered their first defeat in the ongoing European Rugby Challenge Cup after they were beaten by Grenoble 19-13 at Stade des Alpes.

Despite, the defeat Harlequins continue to top Pool 5 - courtesy their losing bonus point while Grenoble are at third with Agen languishing at the bottom.

Corentin Glenat slotted an early third minute penalty to get Grenoble off the mark but four minutes later Harlequins snatched the lead after converting his own try.

The Grenoble fly-half ensured the hosts had a slender 9-7 lead going into the break after managing two more penalty kicks in the 11th and 30th minutes.

Smith restored Harlequins' lead as he slotted two three-pointers in the opening stage of the second half but winger Lolagi Visinia crossed to put the hosts in front while replacement Burton Francis kicked a conversion and a penalty apiece to complete a 19-13 win for Grenoble - their first in the competition.

Grenoble will host Agen on 7th December in their next round while Harlequins will lock horns with Benetton Treviso next on 8th December.
