Westoe Rugby Club gym played host to the final 12 in 12 Challenge of 2013 last week when the Gorillas completed a one million kilogramme pump.

The event brought to a close a year in which the Gorillas had already completed The Great North Run, Tough Mudder and the Yorkshire Three Peaks to raise funds for the South Wales charity.

"It went very well," Haydn Richards said after the mammoth six-hour gym session.

"Some people took longer than others but everyone got round to lifting their 100,000 kilograms each."

The indoor challenge - the first of the year - provided a welcome change for the team.

"This was a different type of challenge," explained Richards. "A challenge which  pushed us through the physical barrier."

It ended a busy weekend for the Westoe Rugby Club first-team players involved after they lost a close game to Morley on the Saturday.

"It took its toll on a few of the lads the next day(s), some going from never lifting a weight in years to this!"

Next up, in January, is an unknown challenge - one chosen by you!
