Gorillas Trade Monkey Bars For Barbells

This Sunday (1st December), the Hire a Hero Gorillas will take on their fourth challenge out of 12, a one million kilogramme pump event.

10 members will head to Westoe Rugby Club's gym for what is the first indoor challenge the team hve attempted.

"We have ten participants for this event, each lifting the equivalent of 100,000 kilograms each," Haydn Richards explains,
 
"Basically we will spend a straight six hours in the gym lifting, pushing and pulling weights."

The challenge is the equivalent of each participant completing 1,000 repetitions of a 100 kilogramme weight which is some feat in itself.

"It will be physically very tough on the body, especially for those who are playing rugby the day before," Richards added. The Westoe team are welcoming Morley to South Shields on Saturday.
 
"If any member gets injured during this event then the other members will lift the outstanding weight," he confirmed.

This will be the final challenge of the year before the remaining eight challenges begin in 2014, ending in August.
