France missed out on the opportunity to claim the top position in the World Rugby Rankings following their latest defeat at Murrayfield Stadium.
The Les Bleus entered the game positioned third with a deficit of 1.35 rating points from the top positioned Ireland. A win for France against Scotland and a defeat for Ireland in Dublin could have seen Fabien Galthié's men claim the pole position.
Nevertheless, tries from Darcy Graham, Pierre Schoeman and Dave Cherry saw Gregor Townsend's men complete a 25-21 victory. The defeat saw France lose 1.47 rating points but they continue to remain at third while Scotland now have narrowed down the gap to fourth placed South Africa to 4.73.
Meanwhile, Wales' victory over England in Cardiff saw them gain 1.10 rating points but they continue to remain at ninth with Steve Borthwick's men remaining at sixth place.
Japan have dropped two places to 14th position following their defeat to Fiji while Samoa's victory over Tonga saw them climb to the 12th position.
