Ireland 33-17 Italy, Aviva Stadium

Caelan Doris scored a double as Ireland went on to defeat Italy 33-17 in their Rugby World Cup warm-up game at Aviva Stadium on Saturday.

Ireland had one injury concern with Jack Conan leaving the field in the 35th minute following a foot injury but tries from Dave Kilcoyne, Doris and Stuart McCloskey provided them a 21-3 lead for them in the opening half.

Italy capitalised on the sluggish start from Ireland as Tommaso Allan’s penalty goal in the opening stage provided them the first points of the game. Ireland came close to scoring the opening try in the 5th minute but Ian Henderson lost possession as he was looking to go over the line in the 5th minute.

Nevertheless, they went in front by the 13th minute as Dave Kilcoyne touched down after good work from Jack Conan and Doris with Jack Crowley kicking the conversion to make it 7-3. With Italy's Danilo Fischetti sin-binned for a dangerous play, Ireland notched their second try with Doris diving from close range for his fourth try at the international level.

Crowley once again was spot on with the conversion as Andy Farrell's men raced to a 14-3 lead by the half-hour mark.

Just before the break they extended their lead further as Doris once again played a pivotal role in Stuart McCloskey's try as the scoreline became 21-3 at the end of the opening half.

Italy showed better intent at the start of the second half as Lorenzo Pani created the space and brushed off a tackle from Jacob Stockdale to dot down and Allan's conversion made it 21-10. However, it was cancelled out with Cian Healy scoring his 12th try 10 minutes later.

Even though Italy came back through Tommaso Menoncello's try in the 68th minute, Doris scored his second with a dive from close range in the 73rd minute to ensure Ireland completed a 16-point victory.
