Scotland international Duncan Weir is set to face a lengthy rehabilitation period after undergoing a surgery on his jaw.

Weir, who joined Edinburgh in 2016, sustained the injury while representing his club in last weekend's clash against Munster. A statement released by by the Pro12 club confirmed that the 25-year-old successfully underwent a surgery on his jaw which will keep him on the sidelines for a considerable amount of time.

"Stand-off Duncan Weir sustained a fracture to his jaw and underwent surgery the following day at St John's Hospital in Livingston," the statement said.

"Weir will face a spell on the sidelines to allow him to recover post-surgery.

"Edinburgh Rugby would like to extend its thanks to the staff of St John's Hospital for their assistance in the care of Weir.

"Tighthead prop Kevin Bryce sustained an injury to his left elbow and awaits a scan to determine the full extent of the injury."

Meanwhile, back-rower Nasi Manu and stand-off Jason Tovey have returned to the training after recovering from their respective injuries. Simon Berghan and Alasdair Dickinson are also making progress from the foot injury and hamstring tear respectively and are expected to return to action next month while Anton Bresler and Phil Burleigh are set to remain on the sidelines.
