Exeter Chiefs fly-half Joe Simmonds will face a disciplinary hearing after he was cited for a dangerous tackle during the recently concluded Champions Cup game against La Rochelle at Sandy Park.

The 23-year-old was cited by the citing commissioner for a tackle on La Rochelle winger Kini Murimurivalu in the 16th minute but escaped any sanction from the on-field referee.

Simmonds has been in top form for the Sandy Park outfit as he kicked 60 points in the ongoing Champions Cup season to help Rob Baxter's side secure a quarter-final berth.

The hearing will take place on Thursday and if proved guilty Simmonds could face a ban between two weeks which is the low-range and 10 weeks which is the sanction for high-range.

Exeter Chiefs will face Northampton Saints in the quarter-final of the Champions Cup at Sandy Park in the first week of April while they are at the top of the table in the Premiership after managing six victories from eight games.
