Exeter Chiefs have confirmed the signing of former Harlequins forward Stan South ahead of the 2019/20 season.

South was originally set to join Championship club Coventry on a two-year deal but injuries to Tom Price and Will Witty meant the Sandy Park outfit has secured the services of the 22-year-old.

The 6ft 6in lock was part of Harlequins since 2015 and has made 30 first-team appearances for the club including 16 in the Premiership.

“I’m really looking forward to it. It’s going to be great joining a top club, who have for a number of seasons now have been in and around the top of the Premiership," said South to the official website of the club.

"Looking from the outside you can see they have a strong unit down there and having played against them a few times, I know how tough a side they are to face.

“For me it’s a new start, a new challenge, but it’s one that I can’t wait to get stuck into.

“I really enjoyed my five years with Harlequins and will forever be thankful for the opportunities they gave me, but this is a new opportunity for me to work with new players, new coaches and add to my skill-set.

"Moving into a different environment will definitely test me in new ways, but it’s also a chance for me to show what I can bring to the team.”
