Scarlets 0 - 40 Exeter Chiefs, Llanelli
Exeter Chiefs maintained their winning streak in the Anglo-Welsh Cup as they trounced Scarlets 0-40 in their face-off in Llanelli on Sunday.
Exeter top Pool 2 with 10 points from two games while Scarlets are at the bottom of Pool 3, though they have played just one game so far as compared to the English sides, who have played two each.
England internationals Ollie Devoto and Matt Kvesic started the game for the Aviva Premiership champions with Red Rose hooker Luke Cowan-Dickie in reserve.
Shaun Malton (12') and James Freeman (32') were the try scorers in the first half for Exeter with Joe Simmonds slotting a conversion as they headed into the second half with a 0-12 lead. Scarlets could have got on board in the first 40 minutes but fly-half Jack Maynard missed a penalty and it was that kind of the day for the Welsh side as they struggled to match up the forwards power of the Sandy Park outfit.
With Scarlets unable to match Exeter with their scrum going backwards, at a rate of knots, referee Karl Dickson awarded a penalty try to the visitors in the 48th minute and soon Tom Hendrickson also went past the line to help Exeter claim the bonus point.
The infringements continued from Scarlets as Steff Thomas became their second player in the game to be sin-binned resulting in another penalty try for Exeter Chiefs as they completed a resounding 0-40 victory.
