Dragons have confirmed the signing of hooker George Roberts from English Championship side Doncaster Knights.

The 27-year-old has joined the Welsh province ahead of their upcoming EPCR Challenge Cup fixture this weekend, strengthening the club’s front-row options.

Roberts arrives in Newport after spending five seasons with Doncaster Knights at Castle Park, where he established himself as a consistent performer.

Earlier this month, he reached a personal milestone by making his 100th appearance for the club, underlining his durability and experience at Championship level.

Born in Wrexham, Roberts began his rugby journey with Wrexham RFC before entering the RGC 1404 pathway at the age of 16.

He progressed through Coleg Llandrillo and the RGC age-grade system, eventually earning a place in the academy setup. His development continued with a senior season at RGC during the 2019/20 campaign, where he featured in Super Rygbi Cymru.

Dragons head coach Filo Tiatia welcomed the signing, saying Roberts has already settled into the group after arriving from Doncaster.

“We’re pleased that George has linked up with us and we’re all looking forward to working with him and him being part of our group," he told the club's official website.

“He’s a proud Welshman who’s made the journey down from Doncaster this week. He’s met the players and coaching staff and is eager to get started with us.

“It’s a chance for him to make a big impression in our environment. He is committed and grateful for the chance. We wish him every success.”
