Dewi Lake named Gloucester captain for 2026/27

Dewi Lake has been named Gloucester Rugby captain for the 2026/27 season, with Seb Atkinson and Jac Morgan appointed vice-captains as the Cherry and Whites prepare for the new Gallagher PREM campaign.

The 27-year-old hooker joined Gloucester from Ospreys this summer and brings significant leadership experience, having captained Wales on several occasions, including during their 2026 summer Nations Championship campaign.

Lake has earned 34 Test caps for Wales and takes over the Gloucester captaincy just months after arriving at Kingsholm.

“I’m extremely honoured to be named captain of Gloucester Rugby. Not just because of the storied history here at the Club, but also to lead an extremely talented, motivated and exciting group here at Kingsholm,” Lake said.

He added that he was grateful to Gloucester’s coaching staff for the opportunity and would draw on the experience of other established leaders within the squad.

“I’m grateful to the coaching group for the opportunity and look forward to leading the group with counsel and advice from the strong leaders already here at the Club.”

Atkinson and Morgan appointed vice-captains

England centre Atkinson and Wales back-row Morgan will support Lake as Gloucester’s two vice-captains.

Morgan also joined Gloucester from Ospreys ahead of the 2026/27 season and toured Australia with the British & Irish Lions in 2025, featuring in the second and third Tests against the Wallabies.

Skivington backs Lake to lead Gloucester

Head coach George Skivington said Gloucester deliberately waited until the entire squad had spent several weeks together before deciding on the leadership structure.

“Dewi’s leadership experience is there for everyone to see, and we’re delighted he’ll take on the role of captain this season.

“It was important for us to wait until the whole group had a few weeks in the building together under their belt before making a decision".
