Wales Women's team hooker Carys Phillips expressed satisfaction on her team's preparations ahead of the 2017 World Cup that will be played in Ireland in August.

Wales are positioned in Pool A along with Canada, New Zealand and Hong Kong with their first game scheduled on 9th August at Billings Park UCD in Dublin.

The 24-year-old will be leading a 28-player women's squad in the tournament and Phillips insisted that the team is upbeat about their chances.

“Preparations have been going very well,” she said.

“We've had a few warm up games leading up to the tournament which has put us in a good place knowing exactly what we need to fine tune in the next few weeks leading into the World Cup.

“I will be unbelievably proud to represent Wales in my second World Cup. It's always a huge honour to put on the jersey and run out alongside your best friends.”

Phillips also admitted that she will enjoy playing with her team-mates in the biggest stage of the game.

“What makes this World Cup special is the fact that we can go from being teammates at Bristol, to teammates on the biggest world stage,” she said.

“Being able to play alongside some of your best mates at club is amazing, let alone at a World Cup.”
