Brumbies 24-17 Sharks, GIO Stadium
Scorecard

Brumbies overcame late fightback from Sharks as they went on to register a 24-17 victory in their Super Rugby encounter at GIO Stadium on Saturday.

Wharenui Hawera kicked a sixth-minute penalty to kick-start the proceedings for Brumbies and 11 minutes later Lausii Taliauli crossed over with the fly-half kicking the conversion to take them to 10 point lead.

Sharks' only points in the first half came through a 30th-minute penalty from Robert du Preez as they reduced the arrears to seven points. Brumbies suffered a setback when Lachlan McCaffrey was sin-binned in the 35th minute but Sharks could not quite capitalise on it.

The second half started with winger Henry Speight diving past the line as they stretched the lead to 15-3 but prop Thomas du Toit helped the visitors comeback with a try of his own that reduced the arrears to five points.

As the final quarter, kicked-off Sharks had the momentum but Hawera's triple penalties provided Brumbies a breathing space and despite Lukhanyo Am's last-gasp effort, the visitors succumbed to a seven point defeat.
