England have suffered an injury blow during their ongoing World Cup training camp in Treviso with flanker Brad Shields forced to return home following a ligament damage on his foot.

The 28-year-old suffered the blow during a training session and will now undergo scans to assess the extent of the damage.

The former New Zealand Under 20 was signed by Wasps in 2018 and made his England debut during the June series against South Africa last year. Since then he has represented the red rose team eight times including the Six Nations tournament earlier this year.

Harlequins' Alex Dombrandt has been named as the replacement for Shields in the training squad as England look to wrap up their preparations.

England will take on Wales in a home and away fixture before taking on Ireland and Italy in the warm-up games leading to the World Cup that kicks-off in September.
