The Auckland Blues have announced the departure of veteran prop Angus Ta’avao, who will join the Highlanders for the 2026 Super Rugby season.
Ta’avao, aged 35, brings extensive experience and will mark his fourth Super Rugby club stint—following the Blues, Waratahs, and Chiefs.
He began his Super Rugby journey with the Blues in 2012 and returned for a second spell in 2023. During the 2024 championship season, he featured in every match, highlighting his durability and consistency, and celebrated his 50th appearance for the franchise.
Over his career, Ta’avao has amassed over 140 Super Rugby appearances and earned 23 caps for the All Blacks, including playing at the 2019 Rugby World Cup. His trademark power in scrums and impactful on-field presence have earned respect from teammates and fans alike.
The Blues thanked Ta’avao for his years of service and contributions, wishing him and his family well as he embarks on the next chapter of his career with the Highlanders.
