Bath Rugby have confirmed the signing of South African playmaker Tian Schoeman from Cheetahs with immediate effect.

The 29-year-old has already arrived in England and has been in quarantine since 6th January. He will join the squad for a training session on Wednesday and has penned a 18-month contract with the Gallagher Premiership club.

Schoeman started his career with Blue Bulls in 2013 and went on to make his Super Rugby debut for Bulls two years later. He made a switch to French club Bordeaux in 2018 before heading to Cheetahs ahead of the 2018/19 season of Pro14.

Bath director of rugby Stuart Hooper is confident that Schoeman's addition will add to the depth in the squad.

“Tian brings a wealth of experience from his time in Super Rugby and also in the PRO14," said Hooper to the club's official website.

"Of all the options considered during our scouting and recruitment work, Tian showed to have the attributes both as a person and a player to be a success here in the UK with Bath.

“He has solid fundamentals with his kicking and tactical awareness but also the speed to challenge defences with the ball in hand.”

Bath are positioned ninth in the Gallagher Premiership table with two wins from six matches.
