Scotland international Richie Gray is set to be on the sidelines for up to four months following a back injury.

Gray will undergo a surgery on his back which will keep him out of the Dark Blues' autumn international campaign and a part of the Six Nations tournament as well.

This will be his second operation on his back after he previously underwent one in June that has limited his participation to just 60 minutes when Toulouse played against Agen on 6th October.

Scotland are already without Stuart Hogg and Zander Fagerson for the November series while Clermont has decided not to release Greig Laidlaw for the opening fixture against Wales that falls outside the international Test window.

Injuries to Tim Swinson and Scott Cummings has added a further headache to Gregor Townsend as he is set to name his squad on Wednesday.

Scotland will face Wales, Fiji, South Africa and Argentina in their autumn internationals on 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th November respectively.
